Independent Tests Verify Interoperability Between Foundry's Networking Solutions And Competitive Switching Products
FastIron Edge X424, FastIron SX 800, BigIron RX and NetIron MLX Earn 13 Tolly Group Interoperability Certifications for Layer 2/3 Advanced LAN Functions
SANTA CLARA, Calif. and BOCA RATON, Fla. – (July 9, 2007) – Foundry Networks®, Inc. (NASDAQ: FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today announced that The Tolly Group, an independent testing and strategic consulting organization, has evaluated and certified four of its enterprise-class switches and metro routers for interoperability with alternative brand switches. Network managers who deploy Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) switching and routing devices in their network infrastructures demand guaranteed interoperability in order to maintain business continuity; this test proves Foundry's solutions will function seamlessly with a variety of networking brands for the functions tested.
In today's networking landscape of continuously changing standards and restricted budgets, an open and convergent network allow network managers to identify which switches and routers can fully interoperate with their existing variety of networking devices in order to maintain application functionality and business continuity. At the Terremark Worldwide, Inc. facility, a major Internet peering point for service providers and carriers, Tolly Group engineers subjected the FastIron Edge X424, FastIron SX 800, BigIron RX and NetIron MLX switches and router to more than one dozen comprehensive tests with switching solutions from 3Com, Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco Systems, Enterasys, Extreme Networks, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, and IBM Nortel. To verify interoperability with alternative switches, Foundry's networking solutions were tested and passed various advanced LAN services, including support for auto-negotiation, 802.1p/Q VLAN tag propagation, RIP v2, OSPF, BGP, Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) and Jumbo Frames.
"After an exhaustive set of comprehensive tests, our engineers validated that Foundry Networks' switches and metro router fully interoperated with 19 other switches for advanced LAN and routing functions at Layer 2 and Layer 3," said Kevin Tolly, president and CEO of The Tolly Group. "These test results are a valuable reference for network managers and architects building or expanding next-generation networking infrastructures for enterprises and service providers worldwide."
"Today, many network infrastructures are comprised of various networking brands and models making interoperability and an open converged network a key requirement to significantly reduce hardware conflicts, which can drastically impair business operations," said Bob Schiff, vice president and general manager for the Enterprise Business Unit at Foundry Networks. "Of the nine vendors participating in the test, Foundry took the lead by submitting more products for verification than any other competing networking vendor thereby demonstrating the company's continued commitment and dedication to interoperability. Network architects can be confident that selected Foundry switching and routing solutions will operate seamlessly with a variety of competitive switching products thus eliminating interoperability disruptions to business operations."
