Overview

Brocade ServerIronXL series switches are the world's most deployed application traffic management devices with tens of thousands of units in over a thousand networks. These switches pack all the essentially swiss-army-knife application traffic management features, including server load balancing, layer 7 switching, global load balancing and ISP link load balancing at the industry's best entry price. The XL series features two fixed-configuration 10/100 Ethernet switches for small server farms with optional Gigabit fiber and copper uplink ports.  Redundant power supplies and DC power are offered as factory installed options on both the products.

The ServerIronXL switches are ideal for small server farms and entry level performance needs where cost of the solution is a key consideration. They deliver high availability IP and Web applications at the industry's best price. The switches are built on hardened switch architecture and feature integrated support for basic Layer 3 functions.

ServerIronXL Series Configurations

  • ServerIronXL 16 (FCSLB16) – Fixed configuration 16-port 10/100 Ethernet with optional redundant power and uplink slot for copper and fiber GbE connectivity.
  • ServerIronXL 24 (FCSLB24) – Fixed configuration 24-port 10/100 Ethernet with optional redundant power and uplink slot with copper and fiber GbE connectivity.

Security

  • DoS Protection: Denial of Service attack protection, including protection against SYN/ACK attacks with the Brocade SYN-Defense technology.
  • Server Connection Rate Limiting: ServerIron switches can control amount of traffic a particular server receives, which prevents abuse and attacks while increasing the availability of applications without blocking legitimate traffic.

Global Load Balancing

  • Global Server Load Balancing (Multi-Site Redundancy): The ServerIron switches can be enabled for this application to offer multi-site redundancy and scalability for IP and Web applications using standards-based DNS and IP routing.
  • Total Transparency to Existing DNS Solution: Works with the existing DNS servers left in place with standards-based interoperability to protect the investment of the current infrastructure. The ServerIron offers increased and independent scaling of the global DNS performance.

Advanced L2 and L3

  • Integrated Full-Function Layer 2 Switching: Industry's most comprehensive Layer 4-7 switching platform with advanced Layer 2 switching for cost-effective and simplified network design with device consolidation. ServerIron XL includes the ability to utilize static routes and also connect to attached servers that are not on their local subnet protecting the inside IP addresses from outside viewing.
  • High Performance Stateful IP NAT: Deploying network address translation on the ServerIron protects servers and reduces load on the high cost firewalls
