Foundry announces plan to complete subscription transition in 2027
Foundry will be transitioning all active maintenance customers for Nuke Family, Mari and Katana to subscription in 2027

LONDON – January 19, 2026 – Foundry, the leading developer of creative software for the Media and Entertainment industries, today announced its plan to complete its transition to a full subscription model next year.
Beginning January 1, 2027 all customers with active maintenance for Nuke Family, Mari, and Katana will transition to subscription upon their renewal. Pricing is unaffected by the transition.
This move provides customers with a year of advance notice and aligns Foundry with industry-standard licensing practices. By focusing on a single subscription model, Foundry can accelerate development and deliver more of the features and performance enhancements that creative professionals rely on.
“Announcing this change a year in advance is a crucial part of our commitment to our customers," explains Alex Foulds, CRO at Foundry. "We want to provide the time and information necessary for a smooth and predictable transition.”
What this means for maintenance customers
At their renewal date in 2027, customers with active maintenance will be transitioned to a subscription plan. The cost of their initial subscription will be priced to match their current maintenance fee, with an annual increase not exceeding 5%.
Renewals taking place during the 2026 calendar year are unaffected by this announcement.
Customers who choose not to renew their maintenance in 2027 will still own their perpetual licenses and can continue to use the last version of the software covered by their plan.
All customers will be contacted in advance of their transition with detailed information about their specific renewal options.

FAQ
When does this change take effect?
The transition will begin on January 1, 2027. Your 2026 renewal will proceed as normal, and the transition to subscription will happen at your next renewal during 2027. We are announcing this a year in advance to ensure all our customers have ample time to plan and prepare.
What if I don't want to switch to subscription?
You would still own your perpetual licenses and could use the last version covered by your maintenance plan on a perpetual basis. However, after your maintenance expires you would lose access to all future services provided by the maintenance plan such as future updates, bug fixes, and technical support.
Will my pricing change in the future?
For the first year of the transition, your annual price will match your current maintenance fee (plus the inflationary increase mentioned above). Our goal remains to ensure the transition is a smooth experience with an outcome that is consistent and predictable.
If my maintenance plan has already lapsed, can I still get this special pricing?
This transition offer is exclusively for customers who have an active maintenance plan at the time of their 2027 renewal. If your maintenance has already lapsed, you would need to purchase new subscriptions at the standard list price to get the latest software and support.
If I decide not to transition on my renewal date, can I change my mind and get this offer later?
This is a one-time offer available only at your 2027 renewal. To secure the price-match offer, you must transition at that time. If you choose to let your plan expire, you will no longer be eligible for this offer and would need to purchase new subscriptions at the standard price in the future.
