Maintenance to subscription FAQs
Why is Foundry moving to a full subscription model?
This move aligns Foundry with industry-standard licensing practices. By focusing on a single subscription model, Foundry can accelerate development and deliver more of the features and performance enhancements that creative professionals rely on.
When does this change take effect?
From January 1, 2027. The transition to subscription will happen at your next renewal during 2027.
What’s the price difference between maintenance and subscription?
To make this transition as smooth as possible, your initial subscription will be priced to match your current maintenance fee plus an annual increase not exceeding 5%.
Will my pricing change in the future?
For the first year of the transition, your annual price will match your current maintenance fee (plus the inflationary increase mentioned above). Our goal remains to ensure the transition is a smooth experience with an outcome that is consistent and predictable.
What do I need to do to go ahead with transition?
As part of the transition to a new subscription license, you’ll be required to trade in your perpetual licenses which involves completing our Maintenance to Subscription agreement. Without this, we cannot transition your license.
- Customers opted in to auto-renewal: If your maintenance contract is set up to auto renew, you’ll receive reminders 30 and 60 days prior to the renewal date. Providing the Maintenance to Subscription agreement has been completed, upon renewal date, our Licensing Team will process your renewal and issue you with your new subscription license.
- Customers opted out of auto-renewal: You’ll receive reminders 30 and 60 days prior to the renewal date with the details of how to transition. If you wish to go ahead, we’ll ask for a signed quote or purchase order to go ahead, along with a completed Maintenance to Subscription agreement. Once received, Our Licensing Team will process your renewal and issue you with your new subscription license. If you prefer to remain opted out, no further action is required.
If I have more than one renewal due throughout the year, do I need to complete the form for each renewal?
No, the form only needs to be completed once which covers all upcoming 2027 renewals.
What if I don't want to switch to subscription?
You would still own your perpetual licenses and could use the last version covered by your maintenance plan on a perpetual basis. However, after your maintenance expires you would lose access to all future services provided by the maintenance plan such as future updates, bug fixes, and technical support.
What if I chose to reduce my number of licenses?
You have the flexibility to reduce your seat count at your annual renewal. However, please be aware that if you reduce licenses and then want to add them back later, they’ll be treated as new subscriptions at the standard list price.
I would like to change my renewal preference from Opt in to Opt out (or vice versa).
Please contact licenses@foundry.com stating that you wish to Opt out or Opt into auto renewal.
What happens if the transition agreement is not completed by my renewal date?
If we do not receive your completed agreement prior to your renewal date, the transition will not proceed, and you’ll no longer be eligible for the reduced pricing.
If I decide not to transition on my renewal date, can I change my mind and get this offer later?
This is a one-time offer available only at your 2027 renewal. To secure the price-match offer, you must transition at that time. If you choose to let your plan expire, you’ll no longer be eligible for this offer and would need to purchase new subscriptions at the standard price in the future.
If my maintenance plan lapsed prior to 2027, can I still get this special pricing?
This transition offer is exclusively for customers who have an active maintenance plan at the time of their 2027 renewal. If your maintenance has already lapsed, you would need to purchase new subscriptions at the standard list price to get the latest software and support.
What if I have a mix of maintenance and subscription licenses today?
This transition affects maintenance licenses only. Your maintenance licenses will be transitioned as described above, while your subscription licenses will continue as normal. In future you can choose to renew either your transitioned licenses, or your subscription licenses, or both.
If my transitioned licenses expire in the future and I want to renew them at a later date, can these be renewed at the lower, transitioned price?
No, once the licenses lapse, any subscriptions purchased will be classed as new and therefore at the new subscription pricing.
